Why undercharging is BAD for you.

Are you undercharging yourself?

Does it feel like you can't charge higher prices because you think that your service is 'not good enough' for that price?

Or worse, you think that you are being 'greedy'?

There's a popular belief in the online space, especially in the online teaching community that, if you want your students to enroll with you, you have to lower your price so that it becomes 'reasonable enough' to buy.

Well, this couldn't be further away from the truth.

One of the reasons why most online teachers struggle with raising their price is simply this:

They don't feel that they deserve it.

Have you ever felt this way? Have you ever felt like you are not worthy to charge higher prices?

Do you feel guilty when you ask for the rates that you really want?

Well, that's about to change because in this blog post, we'll look at two things:

1. Why undercharging is bad for you and your students

2. And how you can increase your prices and get your students to enroll with you.

Undercharging is BAD for your students.

Here's an example.

Let's say you're charging $2 - $5 per hour.

If your students invested in your program and paid $2 per hour, the way that they are going to show up, attend, and participate in your classes is going to be very different from how they will show up if they paid you $50 per hour.

Why?

Because in their heads, they're thinking...

"Well, this is just $2 so, I'm not really going to lose a lot if I didn't do what my teacher asked me to do"

Or

"It's okay to cancel the class today, I'm just gonna lose $2 anyway"

But if they spent $50 per hour, then they're probably going to be more careful about the decisions that they'll make because they have invested more money in it.

In their heads, they're going to be like

"If I don't attend this class, I'll be wasting $50. I don't want to do that. I'll attend the class and do everything my teacher says".

And because they chose to attend your class (instead of skipping the class)

They will LEARN.

They will IMPROVE.

They'll be able to practice speaking English with you.

In return, they will become better English speakers. They'll get the results that they want.

The results that your students want will depend on the level of commitment they have towards your program.

So, if they don't pay a higher price...

they won't pay attention to you.

Undercharging is BAD for YOU.

Now let's talk about your side.

How would you feel if you get paid $2 per hour?

How are you going to show up?

Are you going to be excited, passionate, and motivated?

Are you going to make teaching English a priority?

Probably not.

When you undercharge, you may not be as dedicated to teaching and helping your students.

You might even think it's just a waste of time.

You might feel resentment towards your students.

You might even hate your job as a teacher.

You're not going to be as excited and driven because you're not getting paid the amount you think you deserve.

And if you're not showing up as the best teacher...

If you're not motivated to work with your students because they are not paying you that much...

You are giving a disservice to your students.

Why? Because they're not getting the most out of their time and money with you.

They're not getting the best service you can provide and you're not getting paid the amount you want.

It becomes a lose-lose deal. You lose and your student loses too.

Is this the type of work you can be proud of?

If your answer is no...then great!

You are not alone.

You are human.

You have needs that must be met.

But that doesn't mean that you have to sacrifice on your end.

Especially if you know that you can only become the best teacher and help more people if your financial needs are met.

Now that you know that you're only going to give your best when your efforts are paid well, why are you still allowing yourself to get underpaid?

Most struggling online teachers think that if they lower their price, if they become the most affordable teacher out there, then people will definitely get their services.

If this is true, then why are there students willing to pay $30 per hour, $50 per hour, $80 per hour, or even $1000 per package?

The truth is, there are people out there who will always have the excuse 'I don't have enough money" or "Your price is too high, I can't pay it".

Whether that's $2, $50, or $500.

The important thing to know is there will always be someone who needs your help and who is willing to PAY you the amount that you want.

So, how do you do that? How do you raise your price and get the students that you want?

First, let's look at the common mistake that most teachers do.

They get certificates.

They do this because they think that they need to be certified or have a certain title, certificate, degrees, so they can be worthy of charging premium prices.

Honestly, those things don't matter as much as you think.

Just look at thousands of teachers who already have those certificates yet still struggling to find their own private students.

Maybe you can ask yourself..."Did all my students come up with a decision on whether they'd hire me as their teacher based on my certificates alone?"

Probably not.

I'm not saying that those certificates don't matter. They do matter, especially if you're looking for a job.

But most students are not looking for certificates and credentials.

They are looking teachers who can help them solve their problems.

They are looking for someone who can help them get to where they want to be.

And that's exactly what you should do.

If you want to know how you can charge premium prices, whether it's $50 per hour or $500 per student.

You have to be able to position yourself, deliver the right message, and demonstrate your value––you'll have to be good at marketing.

Once you meet your students, you have to identify their problems, prove that you can solve their problems, and give them an irresistible offer so that it becomes a 'no-brainer' to hire you as their teacher. You'll have to know how to sell.

The good news is, doing marketing and sales are not as difficult as you think.

In fact, looking for a good "high-paying" job is more difficult...and it also has a lot of competition.

When you become good at these two things–marketing and sales–you'll be able to find the right student who will pay you the amount you want, and you'll become more passionate at helping them achieve their goals.

You will be more confident to charge premium prices...

You'll be more proud of your profession...

And you'll have more INCOME because you're not underpricing yourself anymore.

That's a WIN-WIN deal.

So, if you want to start getting your own private students so you can increase your income, get consistent bookings, and build your own teaching business but you have no idea where to start, I have written an ebook just for you––on how to start your own teaching business.
