In this video, a TEOF member and I talked about:
the different niches in the ESL Industry
the range of rates that YOU can charge for each NICHE (popular ones)–if you think $5 per hour is high enough, you’ll be shocked at how low it is
How to decide on what your niche is and who your target students are.
The point of this video is this. There are a many ways to earn more from teaching English online than just sticking with a company that pays $2 per hour. I talked about this in my ebook (assuming you’ve read it), and I mentioned three ways:
Looking for better companies, registering in online platforms, and finding your own students.
If you’re not satisfied with your company right now, you can definitely look for other companies to work for. Here’s a list of online English Teaching Companies.

However, the problem with online companies is control. You don’t have full control over your rates, teaching methods, and schedule. And that’s assuming you get hired despite of the qualifications that high-paying companies require.
If you want to start out having your own private students and charge your own rates but you don’t want to find them on your own, you can join online teaching platforms. Here’s one of the most popular platform online:

The problem with joining teaching platforms is, while you do have more control over your rates, schedule, and methods, you don’t have FULL control of what you’re going to get (salary).
Most online platforms take a percentage of what you earn from your classes. Aside from that, the competition is very strong because you are literally competing with teachers in the WHOLE WORLD.
So only those who are in the top ranks are going to be booked.
Your last (and best) option is to look for your own students.
By finding and attracting your own students, you eliminate the need to be competing with all the other teachers because you are not found in the platform. You also have full control over your rates, teaching methods, and schedule. And lastly, all the profit goes to YOU. What the students will pay is what you will get
